Standard Design Features
The backward inclined provides maximum efficiencies with relatively low tip speeds, quiet operation and non-overloading characteristics that result in the smallest wheel diameter for a given volume. The wheel is easily made of special alloys making it good for corrosive environments. The fan provides higher pressures than a forward curve with efficiencies that are only slightly less than an airfoil. The backward inclined is used in the same heating, ventilating and air-conditioning applications as the airfoil. The wheel is used in some industrial applications where the airfoil blade is not acceptable because of corrosive and/or erosion environment.
